Ericsson 5G Gears to Boost Qatar FIFA World Cup Experience

A new collaboration between Ericsson and Ooredoo Qatar is taking place to bring a unique 5G experience for football fans across the country during the FIFA World Cup 2022.

In a statement, Ericsson said, “The partnership between the Sweden-based telecommunications equipment manufacturer and the Qatar-based carrier is likely to add a new dimension to this global football extravaganza set to be held from November to December 2022.”

As such, the partners will provide network optimization, event management and 5G connectivity in eight stadiums across six cities, in addition to providing those services in dedicated fan zones, airports, and places of attraction.

This will require Ericsson to provide network optimization by applying industry-leading AI-powered technologies and leverage live and predictive network data to achieve the maximum potential. Also, the firms will aim to guarantee the best performance by effectively managing Ericsson Radio System products.

In parallel, the collaboration will find Ericsson and Ooredoo Qatar managing 5G radio access network (RAN) operation performance across the network through Ericsson Managed Services solutions.

Ericsson Radio System includes hardware, Radio Access Network (RAN) Compute, software and services for radio, antenna system, transport, power, and site solutions. It grants a smooth and cost-effective transfer from 4G to 5G, supporting communications service providers to launch the technology and expand the 5G coverage fast.

The company’s 5G radio access technologies provide the infrastructure required to meet the growing demand for high-bandwidth connections and support the real-time, low-latency, high-reliability communication requirements of mission-critical applications.

Ooredoo Qatar and Ericsson are also teaming up on event network management, in order to let football fans, enjoy the connectivity experience benefits even sooner during the regional tournament from 30 November to 18 December 2021.

The progress towards 5G connectivity at the stadiums has been enabled by Ooredoo and Ericsson’s ongoing 5G-focused country-wide network modernization program, with the two entities deploying new technology towards the goal of nationwide 5G coverage.
