Mall of Qatar introduces Vodafone 5G network

Qatar has had a strong communications infrastructure for the last decade.  It was the first to begin the rollout of 5G mobile broadband and ranks second globally (after South Korea) for the fastest mobile speeds.

Digital transformation is important for the country given that the fifth generation technology supports industrial IoT applications and brings better experiences to smartphone users. Deployment has been accelerated because of the need for more efficient and accessible services amid the coronavirus.

Vodafone Qatar has launched its 5G network in the mall of Qatar, marking the latest breakthrough in Vodafone’s rapidly expanding 5G rollout. The mall is among the few in the world to benefit from this advanced technology.

In addition, the fifth generation technology has many benefits for malls that attract a large number of users, given its incredibly fast speed, ultra-low latency, and huge capacity. One of the big beneficiaries of 5G is the retail industry, offering them faster connections and more capacity to customers while  providing opportunities to create enhanced customer experiences.

How do companies enhance customer experience with 5G? The technology enables Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), facial and video recognition, and customised in-store signage and entertainment experiences.

It also allows for larger control over stock levels and supply chains, improved customer insights through video analysis of customer behaviour, and in-store robotics to better manage item movements and placements in the retail environment.

5G in the Mall of Qatar will open up exciting opportunities for both  shoppers and retailers.

The mall contains more than 500 world-class retail outlets for innovative shopping, recreation and leisure activities. It is one of the main pillars of the retail and tourism sector in Qatar, offering a world-class shopping experience.

Vodafone Qatar plays a leading role in the deployment and commercial availability of 5G, covering key locations across the country. In July 2019, Ooredoo Qatar opened mobile access to its 5G network for compatible smartphone users, with 100 live 5G base stations in Doha.

Vodafone’s first ‘Unlimited 5G’ plans have been launched, and offers a number of 5G devices that are on display and can be purchased from its primary store in the Mall of Qatar.
