Megaport to expand data center services to Mexico with Kio Networks

Megaport announced Monday plans to expand to Mexico through a partnership with the country’s largest data center operator KIO Networks.

According to the company’s press release, “customers are expected to be able to access Megaport’s services from KIO’s Mexico City and Queretaro data centers as early as March 2022. Meanwhile, businesses will be able to connect to Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, IBM Cloud, and other leading cloud providers in Mexico.”

The Australia-based Network as a Service (NaaS) provider added that their “major cloud partners Microsoft, AWS, and Oracle Cloud have all uncovered plans for new cloud regions in Mexico in the past year. Microsoft plans to invest $1.1 billion over the next five years to help the country’s major industries accelerate digital transformation.”

Mexico is the second-largest market in Latin America in terms of cloud adoption, with one of the fastest-growing IT markets in the region, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).

“Thirty-five percent of IT spend in Latin America is cloud-related, and according to IDC’s Latin America IT Investment Trends 2021 report, 39 percent of organizations plan to invest in the cloud,” it added.

With Megaport’s expansion into Mexico, the firm serves all three countries in North America, including the United States and Canada. Mexico is the first country in the Latin American market and the 24th nation they serve.

It is worth mentioning that Megaport’s partnership with KIO Networks aims at bringing substantial value to local businesses in Mexico, seeking a broad range of service providers and greater access to direct cloud connectivity as they increasingly adopt hybrid cloud and multi-cloud architectures.

These businesses with global IT footprints will have the capacity to take advantage of Megaport’s presence in KIO Networks data centers in Mexico to connect to public clouds and other services on demand.

“KIO Networks is excited to offer our customers Megaport’s leading global Network as a Service platform as a quick and easy way to connect their businesses to cloud services for hybrid cloud and multi-cloud environments inside our data centers in Mexico,” said Santiago Suinaga, Managing Director of KIO Networks.

“We believe the partnership gives our customers the agility, flexibility, and scalability they need for their digital transformation initiatives to be successful,” he added.
