Telia Carrier Embraces Coherent Pluggables using Acacia’s OpenZR+ Modules and Cisco Routers
Telia Carrier announced today that it is preparing to converge their IP and optical networking layers to simplify their networks. Using Acacia’s 400G coherent modules that are plugged directly into Cisco routers, this architecture will enable Telia Carrier to address increasing bandwidth demand while significantly reducing both capital and operational expenditures.
Historically, scaling and operating a multi-layer architecture has always been a challenge. Thanks to game-changing innovations that span across silicon, optics, and routing systems, complex layers can finally converge into a simpler and more scalable architecture – Routed Optical Networking.
In preparation for this new solution, Telia Carrier has already deployed open line systems and terminal equipment that can support new 400G pluggable technology. As an early adopter of this architecture, Telia Carrier is one of the first network operators to perform full end-to-end validation of the solution. Leveraging Acacia’s 400G QSFP-DD coherent modules with OIF 400ZR and OpenZR+ operating modes, the solution can support data rates from 100G to 400G depending on the desired reach. The modules also support client n x 100GbE multiplexing functionality as well as 400GE transport.

There are a growing number of providers; 200 MNOs have already adopted the eSIM technology while almost all new devices have eSIM support. It has been predicted that by 2025, one-third of smartphone connections will use eSIM globally. Now is the time for all MNOs to support the technology as it comes with a wealth of benefits for end users and for mobile operators.
What are the benefits for end users and MNOs?
The major feature of this technology is that it allows the end user to have several profiles on the same device. The owner of the device essentially manages all subscriptions and is at the center of the experience.

What will happen to the eSIM of end users if the MNO decides to terminate the contract after a year?
Actually, nothing will be affected, the downloaded profiles will still be active and manageable by the device LPA. Once the profile resides in the eUICC, it will become functional by the device’s LPA unless the user decides to delete the profile.

Ontix & GlobalReach Technology Deliver Seamless Central London Wi-Fi Roaming for AT&T’s International Customers
Mobile customers of US-based operator AT&T (NYSE:T) are now able to seamlessly connect in London’s iconic Trafalgar Square, with the launch of a new ultra-fast Passpoint Wi-Fi network from next-generation wireless infrastructure-as-a-service provider Ontix.
Launched in early 2020, the Ontix Wi-Fi service is the first in Central London to offer Passpoint™ connectivity, which is provided by GlobalReach Technology. A solution to mobile connectivity and capacity challenges in dense, inner-city areas, AT&T is pioneering the use of the service to provide automatic roaming through SIM authentication for its mobile customers.
Using this innovative networking standard, overseas AT&T subscribers auto-attach to the Wi-Fi network using the operator’s Passpoint profile which has been installed onto their devices. The profile takes care of seamless user onboarding both onto the Wi-Fi roaming service and the Wi-Fi network and provides the benefit of free VoIP calls.
Installed on lampposts and street furniture assets with high-speed wireless backhaul, the outdoor Ontix Wi-Fi service has been successfully running alongside Ontix’s existing small cell wireless network since January, and is a key validation of Ontix’s hybrid Metrohaul architecture for both Wi-Fi and small cell backhaul in dense urban areas. The high-performance Wi-Fi service is fully available to the public and is set to be extended across Westminster during Q1 2021 under Ontix’s exclusive 10-year concession agreement with Westminster City Council, boosting connectivity in high-footfall retail areas.
